Weardowney's
Get-Up - Marylebone's unique boutique
Weardowney - the design partnership of Gail Wear and Amy Downey
which launched at London Fashion week in February this year
- opens its first ever boutique in a converted pub off Lisson
Grove on Saturday June 19. Amy's background is in modelling
and Gail spent 6 years designing knitwear for John Galliano.
Gail bought the Essex Arms some years ago and lives there
with her family (kids and dogs) while Amy has her own part
of the pub which includes the bar area. The pair have turned
the downstairs into an Aladdin's cave of vintage and modern
gems: the women's room is a boudiour affair with 70s Chanel
bags, Victorian earrings, Basso & Brooke scarves, Weardowney
knits and cotton separates. The men's room features modern,
gothic menswear by the hugely talented Jean-Pierre Braganza
(who also debuted at February's London Fashion Week) and Aluma
and The Tailors' men's collection featuring vintage fabrics
reworked into cardis, T-shirts and shirts. There's a kitchen
in the middle so chances are you might even get a cup of tea
to enhance your browsing pleasure. Prices start from ?0 and
if you'd like to support Weardowney but can't get to the Get-Up
boutique, visit the website for details of how to bid on the
John Galliano archive. There are classic Galliano pieces up
for grabs including Eagle Print dress, pill box hat and a
black cashmere pea coat. The closing date for bids is July
31st and you can view all the pieces at the shop.
The Get-up boutique is at The Old Exeter Arms, 9 Ashbridge
St London, NW8. Open Monday-Saturday, 10am-4pm or by appointment,
telephone: 020 7258 3087.
