Rosary beads
Earlier this year, the Pope spoke out against the wearing
of rosary beads and crucifixes by people making a fashion
rather than religious statement, but the Pontiff's message
hasn't filtered down to school kids and trendsters in the
UK who are currently adorning religious jewellery. Italian
designer label D&G are at least partly responsible: their
rosary beads which came out at the end of last year have been
very popular with fashion heads and celebrities. The black
version (?5) has been selling out fast and D&G staff inform
us that this is because customers are buying three or four
sets at once to be worn together ¨¤ la David Beckham.
Currently, Dolce & Gabbana in Old Bond Street has some
black sets in stock - call 020 7659 9000 to reserve yours
now. Otherwise you might want to consider D&G's more expensive
gold (?80) and silver (?70) versions or take a chance on ebay
where one black pair is going for ?50 (reserve price not yet
met on this) and another set with a single bead missing (the
seller is adamant that you can't see the fault once they're
on) is at ?2 here. If you don't need designer versions, your
local Catholic church or religious paraphernalia shop will
sell you a decent plastic or wooden set priced ?-?0.
